Sophomore Charlie Matarazzo (Montville, N.J.) struck out 12 and classmate Brandon Bursie (Smithfield, R.I.) drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to propel the No. 4 seed Salve Regina University baseball team to a 4-2 win over No. 8 seed Colby-Sawyer in an elimination game in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) playoffs Wednesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

Senior Justin Collett recorded three hits and scored twice for the Seahawks (18-22), who advance to face No. 1 seed Curry Friday afternoon in an elimination game in Milton, Mass. Senior Chris Gaeta (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon McFadden (Dummerston, Vt.) each went 2-for-4 for the Chargers, who end their season at 15-24.

After Colby-Sawyer junior Jarrett Lowe (Sudbury, Mass.) singled in junior Chris Hartley (Billerica, Mass.) to tie the game at two in the top of the eighth, the Seahawks answered back with a pair in the bottom half of the inning to grab a 4-2 lead. Senior Will Pearce (New Fairfield, Conn.) reached on a one-out single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single up the middle off the bat of Bursie. A single by junior pinch-hitter Dave Miller (Shelton, Conn.) advanced Bursie to third, and he came in to score on a sac fly to right by sophomore Pat Quinn (Middletown, N.J.).

Collett came on in relief of Matarazzo in the eighth and recorded the final four outs to earn his second win of the season. Matarazzo, meanwhile, scattered six hits and allowed two runs (one earned) while walking two in 7.1 innings of work.

The Seahawks opened the scoring in the first when Collett led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by sophomore Alex Melcher (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). An RBI groundout by Gaeta in the third tied the score at one before Salve Regina went ahead 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by Melcher.

Freshman Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) pitched well for the Chargers, allowing eight hits and four runs with no walks and three strikeouts in eight innings.
