opportunity.gov

opportunity.gov
President Barack Obama has announced a new website that will assist unemployed Americans in furthering their education in hopes of climbing the career ladder. People already receiving unemployment benefits may be eligible for a "special hand in paying for education and training."

The Federal Pell Grant program can provide up to $5,350 for educational costs at community colleges, colleges and universities, or trade / technical schools. There are also other federal assistance programs that are available, and Obama has assigned Vice President Joe Biden to quarterback the effort.

As you may have heard, President O. is asking all Americans to commit to at least one year of post-high school education, to pump up the society and economy.

The website is Opportunity.gov (that will redirect you to a different URL, but rest assured you're on the right page), and there you can get started with student financial assistance resources, Department of Labor Tools, FAQ's, and more. FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) apps for 2008-2009 must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight time on June 30th, 2009.
